The MROBS Project

Hi guest
We have developed the Millennium Run Observatory (MRObs), a theoretical virtual observatory framework which uses virtual telescopes to `observe' semi-analytic galaxy formation simulations based on the suite of Millennium Run (MR) dark matter simulations.

Latest Data Release (v0.5)

We have as much as possible organised the data products related to our synthetic images into "surveys". A survey is defined by the combination of the instrumental setup (e.g. telescope, instrument, filter) and a surveying strategy (e.g. exposure times, number of sub-exposures, achieved PSF, sky background, etc.) that are used to create the synthetic images. In the survey overview table shown below, we list the surveys for which we currently provide simulated data, together with the different options of stellar populations, IGM, and cosmology. The data products and the specific details about how the simulation was performed can be found by clicking on the download links.
Version numbers are used to keep track of the version of the MRObs pipeline and the survey parameters that were used in the creation of the particular data set. The first official public data release will follow after publication of the MRObs introductory paper: Overzier, Lemson et al. 2012, MNRAS, in press (pdf). The first release products will be v1.0. The "early release" data products presented here will be v0.5, and may be subject to change.
DISCLAIMER: When using any kind of data from the MRObs, users should keep in mind that they are part of a new and evolving experiment at the interface of simulations and observations. Our mock images and surveys attempt to approach real observations while balancing accuracy and practicality. We will continue to make updates and improvements based on feedback from users, requests, and more accurate simulation techniques. Future versions of the simulated data sets as well as an expanded set of simulated surveys for use by the community will be announced through this web portal and in forthcoming publications.
